As Thanksgiving Day 2010 draws to a close, I review the blessings of my life and lift up good health as one of my greatest assets.  I hope that you, too, recognize the wonders of the human body and the importance of the physical health we possess. It seems that we have become so focused upon the financing of sickness that we have forgotten that we have control of our health and our bodies.  Sickness is not inevitable.  It’s important to teach our children how to manage their health and avoid sickness and infection. Parents may need to expand their knowledge base for health promotion, too.  This means learning more about microbiology and infection prevention, anatomy and physiology of the human body, nutrition and food safety, and behaviors that enhance wellness and reduce the risk of disease. 

  The nanobugs can teach the entire family about practical microbiology and infection prevention while they entertain and engage young and old.  Last week we received a message from a Florida grandmother (and experienced critical care nurse).  She said that her home-schooled grand daughters love to play “Go Fish” with her nanobugs playing cards.  She said they are inquisitive about the nanobugs they see on the playing cards and then want to go to the nanobugs website to learn more.  What a great idea for learning essential microbiology with the nanobug characters and their good or bad influence on our health.  A nanobugs card collection can further engage children (and adults) in independent learning about microbiology.
